Blood Safe - Clinical Transfusion

A mandatory competency

Frequency: 2 Yearly

Target audience: all nursing & midwifery staff; & general staff

The aim of the Blood Safe - Clinical Transfusion page is:

  • to access the BloodSafe Learning Program
  • to improve clinician awareness and knowledge of blood/product use
  • to improve clinician awareness and knowledge of alternative therapy for blood/products
  • to improve clinical decision making with regards to blood/products
  • report Blood, Body Fluid Exposure (BBFE)

The information contained within this page is designed to assist nurses and midwives who care for patients receiving blood or blood product transfusions.

Allocated hours: 2 hour (1 hour = 1 CPD point)

Aseptic Technique (Theory)

A mandatory competency

Frequency: Initially then 5 yearly for "High Risk" areas (determined by local area)

Target audience: allAllied Health; Nursing/Midwifery; and Medicalstaff

All clinical staff who perform procedures which require aseptic technique are expected to complete this accreditation.

Aseptic Technique (Practical)

A mandatory competency

Frequency: Initially then 5 yearly for "High Risk" areas (determined by local area)

Target audience: allAllied Health; Nursing/Midwifery; and Medicalstaff

All clinical staff who perform procedures which require aseptic technique are expected to complete this accreditation.

Once you have successfully completed a practical aseptic technique competency assessment, your assessor will record it. When recorded, you will be notified by email (if you have a valid email address on this website) and you will be able to print your certificate.
